FIRE SAFETY EXPOSITION & MUSTER

The 2009 Fireman's Hall Museum Fire Safety Exposition and Muster will be held on Sunday, October 18, 2009 at the Philadelphia Fire Academy.

2009 Promises to be another great year for the Muster. Our hope is to exceed 6,000 attendees this year. The event and parking are free of charge and support comes from local and national public safety suppliers, apparatus manufacturers, fire fighting equipment suppliers, insurance companies and other business loking to promote fire safety. All proceeds raised at the event are used to help Fireman's Hall Museum promote fire prevention and safety. We hope to see you there!

It's been a balacing act at Fireman's Hall Museum as tourists, staff and contractors negotiate their way around construction zones and new traffic patterns. We're changing our look in a number of different areas. The old exhibit cases in the lobby are gone, leaving behind a wonderful brick wall. We've temporarily installed engravings ranging from the late 17th century to the mid-nineteenth century that illustrate the importance of water in firefighting. We will be using this area to display new apparatus as
well as new smaller acquisitions.

The second floor rear north wall has been rebuilt in preparation
for the installation of floor to ceiling cases which will accomodate
artifacts from Philadelphia's earliest days of firefighting. Finally
we're thrilled to report that we have a new compressor for the
HVAC system which will help ensure the safety of our collections.

Collections continue to grow with both large and small donations.
The Colwyn Fire Company has just given us their hose carriage,
originally built in 1854 by Young & Son for the Marion Hose
Company of Philadelphia.
